Mayo Fine Gael TD Michelle Mulherin has welcomed the announcement that a second child and adolescent mental health services psychiatrist and team is to be appointed in Mayo and based in the HSE Primary Care Centre in Ballina.
The child and adolescent mental health services psychiatrist and team will comprise one consultant, one clerical, and five healthcare professionals.
Deputy Mulherin said the approval of a second team for Mayo will be welcomed by parents and children who are experiencing mental health difficulties, and in the recent past have had to cope with the added stress of being on a waiting list.
Deputy Mulherin said the Ballina-based consultant and multi-disciplinary team will provide a vital service to children, particularly in the area of early diagnosis is which is vital in treating any form of illness.
