Console , the national charity for suicide prevention and suicide bereavement, is hoping to extend its services to the Mayo region in the very near future.
The charity says there is an urgent requirement for Console suicide prevention services in Mayo and surrounding areas, especially in light of challenging economic circumstances.
Console CEO Paul Kelly says planning is under way to respond to the Mayo and surrounding community in their hour of need: “Suicide is a very prevalent problem in Ireland today. Many people are in particular crisis as a result of the financial pressures the country is facing. International research has shown that suicide prevention services like those provided by Console are vital to making a difference. We hope to announce support services for the Mayo region in the coming weeks.”
Console is a national suicide prevention charity based in Dublin, Galway, Limerick, Wexford, and Cork. The charity provides professional counselling, support, and helpline services to those in suicidal crisis and those bereaved through suicide. Console, in conjunction with the Three Ts, also operates Ireland’s only 24-hour suicide prevention helpline called 1 Life for those in suicidal distress and for people concerned about others in suicidal crisis.
