O’Mahony welcomes second consultant for Ballina

Fine Gael TD for Mayo, John O’Mahony, has welcomed the news that a second consultant for Child and Adolescent Mental Health has been approved for Mayo and will be in place shortly.

“The approval of a second consultant for child and adolescent mental health for Ballina is very good news for parents of children who are experiencing mental health difficulties, and indeed for the children themselves. Parents often don't know where to turn when their children encounter mental health issues. The provision of another consultant will help children and their parents to identify mental health issues being faced and to help mitigate those issues. I’m very happy to be able to make this announcement as it follows a long campaign to secure this position.

“This consultant will be based in Ballina and will provide clinical leadership to a multi-disciplinary team. What it will mean is that a child and adolescent mental health service team will be based out of Ballina, providing a vital frontline service to the people that require it in the region. It has been proved in many jurisdictions that intervention at early stages can be of immense benefit when dealing with mental health issues,” concluded Deputy O’Mahony.
