A 28-year-old barman who was caught driving at nearly three times the legal limit at 2pm was given a three year driving ban and fined €500 at Ballyhaunis District Court this week.
Niall Richardson, Bracklogboy, Knock Road, Ballyhaunis, was involved in a road traffic accident at Hazel Hill, Ballyhaunis, on September 5 2011 at 2pm. He was arrested by gardaí at the scene and brought to Ballyhaunis Garda Station where he gave a urine sample that returned a reading of 350mg of alcohol per 100ml of urine.
Solicitor for Richardson, Evan O’Dwyer, told the court that his client was a 28-year-old barman who had finished work the night before late and had gone to a house party afterwards. He was coming home from the party and had not left enough time for the alcohol to work its way through his system, and he was involved in a minor car accident which resulted in only a small amount of material damage to another car.
Judge Mary Devins convicted and fined him €500 and disqualified him from driving for three years.
