Fine Gael TD for Mayo, John O’Mahony, has welcomed news that Mayo General Hospital will receive a new, state of the art electronic radiology system. The announcement is part of the HSE’s NIMIS project which is investing over €40m installing new radiology systems in selected hospitals nationally.
“NIMIS will make Mayo General Hospital radiological (X-ray ) services ‘filmless’ and enable secure and rapid movement of patient image data throughout the hospital and the health service generally. The equipment will be installed in Mayo General by the end of this year,” said Dep O’Mahony.
“This new imaging system will enable doctors to electronically view their patient’s diagnostic images, such as X-rays, MRI, ultrasound and CT scans, promptly and easily. The rapid access and availability of patient’s records to health professionals is a significant step for patient safety and early and appropriate treatment.”
