Men on the Move Activity Programme

Are you worried about that extra weight, or thinking about getting more active? Do you want to improve your overall health and wellbeing?

Mayo Sports Partnership in collaboration with HSE West is offering a new programme for men aged 35+ over the coming weeks in the Ballina, Claremorris, and Westport areas.

Launching the project, Mayo Senior GAA team manager James Horan stated: “There are a lot of men who once they finish playing competitive sport just give up on taking exercise. It is so important for both physical and mental health that people participate in some form of sport/physical activity. This programme gives men a chance to do that and I highly commend it.”

Mid West Radio is also rowing in with the initiative and will be calling for 100 men to participate in the eight week programme which will culminate in a Men on the Move 5k walk/run on Wednesday May 16.

“Mid West Radio are delighted to support this project and we plan to follow its progress through the eight weeks. We hope that many men throughout the region avail of this fantastic opportunity,” presenter Tommy Marren added.

There are three open evenings where men can go along and get a free health check (from 7pm ), information on healthy eating, and sign up to an activity programme, as follows:

Manor Hotel Ballina on Monday March 12 at 7.30pm.

Mill Times Hotel Westport on Tuesday March 13 at 7.30pm.

McWilliam Park Hotel Claremorris on Thursday March 15 at 7.30pm.

Programmes include walking, jogging, and cycling, and all are free.
