Former rugby international Alan Quinlan was “Tagged in Westport” as he announced details of the west of Ireland’s inaugural Tag Rugby Festival taking place on Friday May 18 and Saturday May 19 in Westport.
The Westport Plaza and Castlecourt Hotel Resort in association with Westport Rugby Club will host the inaugural sporting event with a full weekend of entertainment planned, both on and off the pitch. Some 300 players are expected to take the tag challenge to be crowned the 2012 ‘Tagged in Westport’ champions.
The tag rugby tournament begins at 11am on the Saturday with a carnival like atmosphere at the festival marquee including all day entertainment, live music, food and drinks at the Westport RFC Grounds. Spectators are also welcome to attend free of charge to cheer on the players and enjoy the festivities.
Speaking of the inaugural Tagged in Westport festival, event organiser Joe Corcoran of the Westport Plaza and Castlecourt Hotel Resort commented: “The festival is all about fun. Regardless of your tag rugby skills or abilities it’s all about getting together with friends, meeting new people and enjoying the weekend of entertainment both on and off the pitch and where better to have such fun than Westport.” Corcoran also points out that if you are not already part of a team, “don’t worry, individuals are most certainly welcome as Tagged in Westport teams will be formed for the weekend which will be all part of the fun.”
Participation in the festival costs just €35 per person placed on a mixed team of girls and guys with both friends and new team mates. Teams are also welcome and each team is guaranteed four games with tag teams of all levels and playing abilities welcome. Places are limited.
