Busy weekend of captains drive ins around the county

Balla

In the men’s stableford competition last weekend Pat Mohan was the winner of the competition on a score of 41pts. Pat Kilgallon came home in second place on 36pts with Martin Moylette taking third. The ladies’ competition was won by Catherine McNulty on a score of 39pts, with Mary Brett on 38pts in second and Aine McDonald third on 35pts. The club will be holding a table quiz tomorrow at 9.30pm in Mannion’s bar. The prize giving ceremony for the Winter League will take place on the night also. The captain’s drive in will take place at 12.30pm on Sunday and will be followed by a scramble competition.

Castlebar

The pair of Jim Tiernan and Brian McDonald won the right to represent the club in the Irish Daily Mail foursomes after winning last weekend’s qualification competition. The grand final of the Winter League will take place on Sunday, 27 teams have made the grade for the final so far, with two more spots up for grabs in tomorrow’s non-qualifier competition. Sunday will also see the traditional captains drive in take place when Henry Horkan and Edel Burke hit the first ceremonial drives of the season.

In the ladies’ 13 hole foursomes played over the last weekend there was huge entry, with Evelyn Brady and Jacinta Howley winning out. They finished just in front of Rita Moran and Ilsih McGing in second place and Regina Kerr and Edel Burke in second. The ladies’ Spring League grand final will take place on Sunday.

Claremorris

The trio of JP Hughes, Declan Hession, and Gary O’Toole were the winners of the CBE winter rumble final last weekend. Second place went to Matt O’Donovan, Peter Hynes, and Pat McGuinness, with the best mixed team prize claimed by Peggy Tawse, Peter Tawse, and Ann Moran. The 15 hole scramble saw Brendan Kelly take the men’s prize and Marie Healy the ladies’. The captain’s drive in will take place on Sunday at 4pm.

Mulranny

Richard Keane continued his rich vein of form with another win in Sunday’s 15 holes competition with a score of 34 pts. Paul Gavin came second with Noel O’Malley third. This weekend will be the last of the winter 15 hole competitions and the captain’s drive in is scheduled to take place on Sunday, March 18.

Westport

In last weekend’s gents’ competition Michael Fahy was the winner on a score of 33pts, with Tony Ruane coming second on 31pts and Tommie J Reilly third on 29pts. The ladies’ competition was won by Mary McNicholas on 23pts, with Nuala Moody coming second.

Captains Gerry Hughes and Nuala Walsh are inviting the members to join tomorrow to officially open the new golfing season at the captain’s drive in. There is a timesheet in operation for the fun scramble that will take place immediately after, the event will kick off at 1.15pm.
