Salmon Capital branding lands national award for Ballina Town Council

Ballina Town Council has been awarded the Chambers Ireland national award for excellence in local government in economic development.

The announcement, which has been welcomed by the town Mayor Councillor Michelle Mulherin, was made last Thursday night in Dublin by Mr John Gormley TD, Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government.

“It was a wonderful occasion,” stated Cllr Mulherin. “Ballina Town Council won the award for its involvement in the branding and marketing of Ballina as Salmon Capital of Ireland.

“This award is the fruit of the successful co-operation between the town council and Ballina Chamber in conjunction with Mayo County Council, the North Western Regional Fisheries Board and other local tourism service providers. This venture now sees the Ballina Salmon Capital of Ireland brand being marketed by Failte Ireland as an area of excellence for salmon angling at home and abroad.”

Local TD Dara Calleary also congratulated the council on their accolade: “Ballina Town Council and the local business community have been working well together to promote the town and I would like to congratulate them on their achievements and encourage them to keep up the good work,” he said.
