TG4-contracted artist Harry Feeney will give a watercolour demonstration at an art sale in Breaffy House Hotel on December 4. The Castlebar Rotary art sale is run in conjunction with Mayo Cancer Support Association based at Rock Rose House. Over 30 artists will exhibit and sell their work on the night and proceeds will go to the chosen charity.
Artist Harry Feeney, originally from Derry and now living in Foxford, works as a full-time artist. TG4 commissioned Harry to do his own painting series relax with watercolours and this was first broadcast in spring 2007. He has since been commissioned for a number of series and he is due to start filming again shortly. Harry also runs Foxford Lodge B&B where he offers a number of residential painting courses as well as fishing and relaxation weekends.
Harry Feeney was born in Derry City, Northern Ireland in 1956. He grew up through the troubles in difficult times. In the mid-seventies he decided that if “he didn’t get away he would end up in jail or dead”. So Harry took a huge risk and set off from Derry’s Strabane Old Road without informing his family, he stuck his thumb out and took a lift from a passing motorist who was travelling to Dublin.
Over nine years ago Harry settled in Foxford. He now paints full-time, holds workshops, paints commissioned pieces, has collectors of his work worldwide, is bringing out a second TV series, book and DVD and gives generously of his time to charities.
Harry will give a watercolour demonstration at Rotary Castlebar’s annual art expo and sale on Thursday December 4 in Breaffy House Hotel. Harry’s painting will be donated for auction. A relaxing and very enjoyable night is promised with wine, cheese and hundreds of original works of art. Proceeds from the event are in aid of Mayo Cancer Support Association. Tickets are available on the door for €10, doors open at 7pm, all are welcome.
