Drink driving conviction for Ballinrobe man

A 29-year-old who was arrested for drink driving after a night out with friends was fined and disqualified from driving at Ballinrobe District Court this week.

Superintendent Padraic O’Toole outlined to the court that Brendan Clarke, 38 Churchview, Ballinrobe was arrested at 1.45am on December 12 2006 on suspicion of drink driving. A urine analysis was subsequently produced by the defendant at Ballinrobe Garda Station which showed a reading of 230mg of alcohol per 100ml of urine. Clarke also failed to produce insurance.

Aidan Crowley, who represented the defendant, said that the married father pleaded guilty to the drink driving conviction, but thought that he was insured at the time, but in fact the insurance policy was in his wife’s name.

The defendant was convicted and fined €200 by Judge Mary Devins and disqualified from driving for three years. The insurance summons was taken into consideration.
