A Ballyhaunis woman who didn’t pay a fixed charge penalty notice after she parked her car at a 45 degree angle on the Main Street in Ballyhaunis causing the traffic to back up through the town was convicted and fined €300 this week in Ballyhaunis District Court.
Garda Alan Ryan told the court that on July 21, 2011 at 2.40pm he saw a car parked on the Main Street which was parked at a 45 degree angle, partially blocking the road. He left and came back ten minutes later and the car was still there. He went on to tell the court that he was unable to stay around to speak to the driver when they came back so he issued a fixed penalty notice which was never paid.
Garda Ryan told the court that the car was owned by Blanka Ptackova, 13 Abbeyquarter, Ballyhaunis. Ptackova, who appeared in court without a solicitor, said that she never got any notice when asked by Judge Mary Devins why she did not pay the fine. Judge Devins convicted and fined Ptackova €300.
