Fine for woman caught not closing level crossing on CCTV

A Kilkelly woman was fined €250 and ordered to pay €250 costs when she pleaded guilty of failure to shut a level crossing gate.

The court was told by solicitor for Irish Rail, Rory O’Connor, that Lorraine Mullaney, 37 Bar Na Trimoge, Kilkelly, was caught on CCTV camera not shutting the gate on a level crossing she had just passed through on March 11 2011. The level crossing was located at Cloonboy, Claremorris.

Mr O’Connor handed into Judge Mary Devins a number of photographs taken by mobile CCTV unit that had been put in place to observe the crossing. Judge Devins commented on the clarity of the photographs which clearly showed the defendant driving her car. When asked by Judge Devins why she didn’t close the gate at the crossing behind her, Mullaney said she just drove through it without thinking about closing it. Judge Devins convicted and fined Mullaney €250 and ordered her to pay €250 costs to Irish Rail.
