Man disqualified from driving following accident

A father of five from Pakistan was disqualified from driving for one year at this week’s sitting of Castlebar District Court.

Garda John Paul Dunning outlined that he responded to a road traffic accident on July 21 2011 at 6.50pm at Moneen, Castlebar. Irfan Ali, Old Convent, Abbey Street, Ballyhaunis — a learner driver, had no L plates displayed, was not accompanied, and had no driving licence or insurance.

The defendant told the court that he did not have insurance on the day of the accident. The court heard that the asylum seeker has still not sat his driving test.

For not having insurance Judge Mary Devins convicted and fined him €600 and disqualified from driving for one year. For not displaying L plates he was convicted and fined €75, and for not having a driving licence he was convicted and fined €120.
