An 18-year-old footballer for Dundalk FC appeared before Castlebar District Court this week after he admitted hitting a parked car and then driving away from the scene of the accident.
Gardaí received a report about a hit and run incident on March 30 2011 at 6pm after a parked car on Main Street had damage done to its driver side wing mirror and there was a large dent in the driver’s door. The car which caused this damage was captured on CCTV, however the car registration number was not captured.
The investigating garda observed this car parked in Kiltimagh. The car was registered to John Mountney, The Village Inn, Bohola.
The court heard that the defendant was parking his car when the accident occurred. The damage caused to the car amounted to €850, which was paid out by the insurance.
Mountney has no previous convictions.
Judge Mary Devins applied the Probation Act.
