A man who threw a can of lager at a garda was convicted and fined €200 at Ballina District Court this week.
On November 14 2011, gardaí received a report about a large group of men who were arguing and drinking in a lane way near Convent Hill, Ballina.
Gardaí arrived at the scene and observed Patrick Ferguson, 114 Greenhills Estate, Ballina, drinking from a can. The defendant threw the can at Garda Conor Drury and then ran away. Ferguson, who was intoxicated, was apprehended and then tried to lash out at the garda.
The 24-year-old father of two, who is unemployed and who has previous convictions, was convicted and fined €200 by Judge Mary Devins.
