Ballina school presents Fiddler on the Rooftop

Ballina’s St Mary’s Secondary School presents Fiddler on the Rooftop, a unique take on a Broadway favourite – but with a drastic twist in the tale.

The stage is set for the four-night show running from Tuesday February 7 to Friday February 10 inclusive, and with curtain up in the Convent Hall at 8pm sharp nightly, it promises to be a great run of entertainment, drama, song, and dance.

Set in 1905 in Tsarist Russia, the story is the classic tale of poor Jew, Teyve, his sharp-tongued wife Golde, and five daughters, three of marriageable age. The plot thickens when Teyve encounters a gossipy matchmaker, keen to fix up his daughters; an elderly butcher, a stranger from Kiev, a poor tailor, and some Russians – and what follows is a kaleidoscope of story, dance, and song. With more than a few twists and turns along the way, Tevye fears for the family, the future, and the world of Jewish tradition.

Tickets are priced at €10 for adults and €6 for students and OAPs. The ticketline is now open on 087 185 0722.
