Residents and businesses invited to Castlebar policing meeting

A public meeting to be held by The Castlebar Joint Policing Committee (JPC ) is being opened up to residents and business associations wishing to make submissions.

The committee, which was established in 2009 as a forum for consultations, discussions, and recommendations on the policing of the town, is now conducting a consultation process with community groups registered with the Mayo County Community Forum and resident associations.

A questionnaire has been circulated to groups asking for identification of key issues that might be addressed at the meeting.

Welcoming the initiative, Fine Gael town councillor Noreen Heston, called for full participation in the exercise.

The councillor recommends that each residents’ group arrange an early meeting and endeavour to get a representative from each household to attend; all community and business groups/associations should similarly canvass the views of their members.

“Groups should discuss and prioritise issues and complete the questionnaire and return it to the town clerk before February 3”, said Cllr Heston, who added that she is available to help any group in organising meetings or completing the questionnaires.
