Gold for Aaron Murtagh at National Indoor Championships

Aaron Murtagh, Ballina Athletic Club, won a gold medal in the junior triple jump at the National Junior championships in Nenagh at the weekend. Good performances were also recorded by Hugh Armstrong in the 1,500m and Simon Gillespie in the 3,000m walk. Hugh Armstrong will be eligible to compete in this competition again next year. Simon Gillespie recorded a PB in the 3000m walk and is eligible to compete at this level for the next three years.

Tri Lakes Triathlon Club open night for those considering triathlon or duathlon in 2012

Tri Lakes Triathlon Club will host an open evening and recruitment night on Monday next, January 30, in the Valkenburg, Ballinrobe, at 9pm. This is an opportunity for anyone considering triathlon or duathlon in 2012 to meet members of the club and discuss training plans and forthcoming events.

Triathlon is a sport which involves swimming, cycling, and running events of various distances, and duathlon involved running and cycling. Tri Lakes Triathlon Club is based in south Mayo and north Galway and has members of all different athletic abilities, from complete beginners at all three disciplines to experienced Ironman and adventure racers. The club is in existence for three years and has training sessions and club events on a weekly basis.

Members of different abilities will be on hand next Monday evening to meet anyone interested in joining the club or taking part in races. The club’s own race, The Quiet Man Triathlon, will take place on Sunday May 13 in Cong and will be a sprint distance race comprising a 750 metre swim, a 20km cycle, and a 5km run.
