Driver hit teenager as she crossed the road

A Castlebar woman was convicted of careless driving at Castlebar District Court this week after she was involved in a minor road traffic accident when she struck a 15-year-old girl who was crossing the road.

On April 3 2011 at 3.45pm the pedestrian was struck by Mary Gannon, Rocklands, Castlebar.

Gannon had been driving very slowly at the time and had become distracted by the car in front of her turning just before a pedestrian crossing.

The friends of the injured girl claimed that the green man was on at the time of the accident.

The defendant, who has no previous convictions, was convicted and fined €150 by Judge Mary Devins.
