FF to hold public meeting on the future of Irish farming

Fianna Fáil spokesperson on agriculture Michael Moynihan TD will hold a public meeting in Midfield tonight (Friday ) to discuss the challenges facing the farming sector in Mayo and across the country.

Deputy Moynihan will be joined by North West MEP Pat the Cope Gallagher and local Fianna Fáil TD Dara Calleary in Julien’s, Midfield at 8pm.

Top of the agenda will be the impact on Irish farmers of changes to farm payments under reform of the Common Agricultural Policy and the Government’s decision to cut the Disadvantaged Areas Scheme, REPS, and AEOS.

Deputy Moynihan yesterday met with the European Agriculture Commissioner Dacien Ciolos at Leinster House in Dublin. The Fianna Fáil agriculture spokesperson raised his concerns about the serious shortcomings in the European Commission’s proposals, including the plan to introduce a flat rate payment system.

All people in Mayo who are concerned about the impact of changes to their farm payments and the undermining of the agriculture sector are welcome to attend this meeting.
