Mayo General Hospital has announced that the keys to the new permanently based MRI scanner were handed over to Mayo General Hospital by representatives of the fundraising groups at a ceremony at the hospital recently. The funding for the MRI scanner had been raised by a number of established cancer charities and the core groups involved were Cancer Action Mhaigh-Eo and the Bright Eyes Campaign.
Charlie Meehan, manager of Mayo General Hospital, said: “I would like to sincerely thank the people of Mayo who generously contributed to the development. I recognise the hard work and dedication of Cancer Action Mhaigh-Eo and the Bright Eyes Campaign. I acknowledge Michael and Nora Devaney and their committee who set up the Bright Eyes Campaign in memory of their late daughter Angela. I would like to thank Margie Frain and Sandra Tuffy and all the committee from Cancer Action Mhaigh-Eo who have ensured that the people of Mayo have access to the most modern highest quality radiology service possible and all the staff within the hospital who enabled the development. I particularly would like to acknowledge Marie Mellett who provided strong linkages between fundraisers and the hospital”.
The HSE and Mayo General Hospital would also like to thank the people of Mayo for their support and generosity in funding the cost of the MRI and CT scanners at the hospital.
