Mayo County Council is to proceed with the twinning of Ballinrobe and Luzinay, France, after moves to formalise the ties between both towns was supported by all the members of the Claremorris Electoral Area (which covers Ballinrobe ) this week.
Fianna Fáil councillor Damien Ryan has also requested that a move be made on progressing the twinning process between Jonava in Lithuania and Ballinrobe, stressing that the link is important for the large Lithuanian community in the south Mayo region.
He called for the item to be placed on the agenda for the next meeting of the council. However county manager Peter Hynes informed the councillor that the paperwork for this may not be at an advanced enough stage for the formal proceedings to be brought before the next council meeting.
