Motorised street sweeping needed in Claremorris

The absence of motorised street sweeping in Claremorris was queried by local councillor Richard Finn, speaking at the December meeting of the Claremorris Area committee.

Asking area engineer Tom Feerick about the matter, Cllr Finn said there is a need for weekly visits of the machine on the streets, especially after the weekends and on the approach roads to the town.

“I want to see greater activity and presence of the sweeping machine on our streets in the future. If the machine is not in Claremorris it is being used in other towns and we in Claremorris need our share of its time,” declared Cllr Finn.

At the same meeting Cllr Finn also raised the issue of speed limits at Brickens, noting “a serious accident occurred there in the last week and we are still awaiting the erection of 50 mph speed limits.

“The road has been upgraded and resurfaced making this corner at Flanagan’s Pub faster and more dangerous. We were supposed to have new speed limit signs erected this year. Where are they? This is the only village of its type between Claremorris and Dublin that has not got 40mph to 50mph signs together with the fact that it is the site of a dangerous fast turn.”

The area engineer said he would again get in touch with the NRA in relation to the problem.
