Driver admitted to gardaí that he drove drunk from pub

A 31-year-old man from Castlebar who admitted to gardaí that he had driven while drunk, was disqualified from driving for three years at Wednesday’s sitting of Castlebar District Court.

Inspector Joe Doherty outlined that on April 19 2011, a report was made to gardaí that a car was involved in an accident and it was believed that the driver might have been under the influence of alcohol.

Gardaí located the car at Clooonsoona where it had stopped after it had skidded on the road and got caught in a fence. The driver, Kelvin Jordan, Mount Daisy, Castlebar admitted that he had been drinking in the Punch Bowl, Ballyheane. He was arrested and brought to Castlebar Garda Station where he provided a breath sample which gave a reading of 119mg of alcohol per 100ml of breath.

The unemployed man who lives with his parents has no previous convictions.

Judge Mary Devins convicted and fined him €400 and disqualified Jordan from driving for three years.
