An unemployed man, who when drunk acted in a disorderly manner on a Castlebar street where he was shouting and cursing, was observed by a garda, and ended up before Castlebar District Court this week.
On June 19 2011, Graham Grimes, Ringarraun, Ballyheane was observed shouting loud and cursing, by a garda who was on patrol on New Antrim Street. Grimes was directed by the garda to leave the area, however he continued to shout and refused to leave. Grimes was arrested at 4am.
Grimes, who represented himself said that he could not remember the night.
When asked by Judge Mary Devins what he is employed as he replied: “I don’t do anything.” The court heard that the defendant is in receipt of social payments from the State. Judge Devins said that even though he receives money from the State that he has enough money to get so drunk that he could not remember the night, the judge said that it was a “miracle of economics.”
Grimes was convicted and fined €100 for the section eight public order charge. The section 5 charge was taken into consideration.
