Mayo County Council embraced the European Week of Waste Reduction by hosting a FreeTrade Ireland reuse event at Ballina Recycling Centre on Friday November 25.
For the event, householders were invited to drop off items they no longer wanted but preferred to see the item reused rather than dumped. All items accepted for reuse were uploaded to www.freetradeireland.ie, the local authority reuse website.
“A much loved and still working perfectly manual knitting machine got a new owner on Friday thanks to www.freetradeireland.ie,” said Sharon Cameron, environmental awareness officer, Mayo County Council.
“Other items we rescued previously included three bikes, a sewing machine, a rocking horse, a basket, a selection of DVDs and videos, and an ironing board,” added Ms Cameron.
If you are interested in freebies, you should check out www.freetradeireland.ie All items received during the recent reuse event will be uploaded to the website and will be available to anyone who is interested.
FreeTrade Ireland is the national reuse initiative funded by Department of the Environment, Community and Local Government the Local Authorities on Ireland.
