Works to be carried out to deal with flooding in Hollymount and Roundfort

Mayo Fine Gael TD, John O’Mahony, has welcomed the confirmation by Minister Brian Hayes that €80,000 has been set aside to carry out works to alleviate serious flooding in the Hollymount and Roundfort region of south Mayo.

Deputy O’Mahony, who facilitated a meeting with Minister Hayes when he visited the county last Thursday, said the target date for work to commence was May of next year.

“This work cannot be done quickly enough. I understand that the National Parks and Wildlife will have their environmental survey completed in January and that work will commence in May. Minister Hayes gave a commitment at our meeting, which was also attended by local councillors Michael Bourke, Tom Connolly and Patsy O’Brien, that the €80,000 was ring fenced.”
