There will be celebrations in Davitt College next week when the official opening of the long-awaited Joe Langan Sports Hall, at Davitt College, Castlebar - in honour of the late Joe Langan, finally takes place.
Taoiseach Enda Kenny will be on hand to oversee the official opening on Monday, December 12 and will also be present when the ribbon is cut on the new Phase 1 School Extension, which consists of three new specialist classrooms, a home economics Room, a woodwork/construction room and a design, communications and graphics room.
The Taoiseach will then proceed to The Joe Langan Sports Hall, adjacent to the school,
and will unvail the plaque, which will officially open this State of the Art building.
The Joe Langan Sports Hall is the result of many consultations and meetings with much time and commitment invested over the years in ensuring the project became a
reality.
The new Joe Langan Sports Hall will provide a facility that is sure to enrich the lives of generations of students who will pass through the school.
College principal Bernie Rowland described the new sports hall as a testament to the tenacity of two generations of parents and staff who continued to persevere to provide a vital facility for students at the college.
She thanked all who gave their time and energy so patiently and so productively over the years.
“The opening of the Joe Langan Sports Hall is a great celebration, not only for Davitt College but also for the town of Castlebar,” she said.
