Thousands pay their respects at Eithne Kenny’s funeral

The funeral of the Taoiseach’s mother, Eithne Kenny (93 ), took place in Castlebar on Monday, where large crowds of sympathisers turned up at the funeral Mass which took place in the Church of The Holy Rosary.

A large number of dignitaries turned up to pay their respects at the removal and funeral including President Michael D Higgins, former president Mary McAleese, Fianna Fáil party leader Mícheál Martin, former taoiseach Bertie Ahern, and Northern Ireland Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness.

Mrs Kenny, a native of Glencolmcille, Co Donegal, was laid to rest in Islandeady cemetery.

She is survived by her sons Enda, John, Henry, Kieran, and her daughter Marie.
