Christmas lights in Belmullet

Belmullet Christmas Lights Committee wish to invite the Erris Community to come along to the switching on of this years Christmas lights on Friday November 2 at 6.30pm on Carter Square.

Christmas flower arranging demonstration

The North Mayo Garden and Flower Club is hosting a Christmas flower arranging demonstration by Deirdre McCarthy, from the school of floristry, Newport, on November 30 at 8pm in the Ballina Arts Centre.

Admission is €10. Arrangements will be raffled.

Mother and baby group

A mother and baby group will meet in the youth centre in Ballinrobe every Thursday at 11am.

Tree lighting ceremony

The tree lighting ceremony for Let Love Shine a Light in aid of Mayo Roscommon Hospice takes place in Knock on Sunday December 4 at 5.45pm.

Shine a light cards are now available at local chemists, the shrine office Knock, or by contacting 094 938 8666.

Christmas fair to help Mayo Cystic Fibrosis

The Westport Gardening Club Annual Christmas Fair will take place in Knockranny Hotel, Westport, on December 1.

There will be a cookery demonstration by Knockranny’s award winning chef, Seamus Commins, while all the Christmas flower arranging will be taken care of with a special demonstration by the well known flower arranger, Richard Haslam. There will also be food tasting and a variety of stalls displaying some of the finest of local produce that Westport and its environs has to offer.

Tickets for this very special event are on sale now and are priced at €10. They are available from any member of the gardening club or from Margaret at 098 27109.

Westport Civic Trust

The AGM will be held on Tuesday December 6 at 7.30pm in The Atlantic Coast Hotel and is open to all paid-up members of the trust.

The AGM will be followed at 8.30pm by: Gaza Through Local Eyes, a talk by locally-based documentary film-maker Sandra Jordan. Everyone is welcome to this talk and there is a small admission charge for non-members.

Open Fair in Royal Theatre

Mayo’s first Open Fair will take place at the Royal Theatre, Castlebar, on Sunday December 4.

The fair is a series of talent expos taking place all over the country, aimed at people who can make products or supply services.

Christmas Craft Fair

A Christmas Craft Fair will take place in Tooreen Hall (five miles from Ballyhaunis ) tomorrow November 26 at 8pm.

Home made crafts and food will be on display. There will be a cheese and wine reception, music, song, and dance, and a raffle for super prizes. Admission is €5.

Castlebar Active Retirement

Castlebar Active Retirement invites new members to join the group, meeting every Wednesday at 3pm in the Welcome Inn Hotel, Castlebar.

Santa in Clogher

Santa will arrive at Clogher Community Hall, Ballintubber, on Sunday December 4 from 3pm to 6pm.

There will be a photo and gift for every child. Entrance fee is €6 each or €20 for a family of four. Adults free.

Table quiz

A table quiz will take place tonight, Friday 25 in McCarthy’s Bar, Main Street, Castlebar in aid of the Castlebar Mitchels Juvenile Hurling Club. The event starts at 9.30pm.

Two open public meetings of Alcoholics Anonymous will be held in Breaffy House Resort today November 25 at 8.30pm and on Sunday November 27 at 12.30pm.

Liverpool supporters club

The Ballina branch of Liverpool supporters club has announced its first dinner dance with special guest, Liverpool and Ireland legend, John Aldridge.

The gala evening will be held in the Downhill Hotel, Ballina, on December 3.

Tickets can be purchased until November 25 from Kevin in Hogan’s Bar, O’Rahilly Street, Ballina. €40 per person.

25 Card Drives

Cloonlyon National School Parents Association will hold 25 Card Drives on Wednesday night November 30 and December 14 in the Knock Airport Lounge at 9pm sharp.

An exciting new series which looks at the many different cultures that make up our community today will begin on Claremorris Community Radio 94.6FM today, November 25, at 1pm.

GOAL Mile

GOAL is asking people from all over Mayo to help celebrate the 30th birthday of one of the country’s most popular annual fundraisers by organising a GOAL Mile somewhere in the county this Christmas.

Recycle in Ballina

If you live in the Ballina area and have unwanted items that someone else might want and reuse, Mayo County Council and FreeTrade Ireland invite you to drop in to the FreeTrade Ireland Day today November 25 at Ballina Recycling Centre on the Killala Road, from 10am to 4pm.

Castlebar Rotary

The members of the Rotary Club of Castlebar and their friends have been busy donating their unwanted gifts, unused prizes, and household items for a new sale event – A Christmas Fayre.

The event is the brainchild of Breda Mulroy vice president of Rotary Castlebar and all proceeds will be donated to local charities. The Christmas Fayre will be held in An Sportlann (next to McHale Park ) on Sunday December 4 from 2pm to 6pm. Admission is free.

Christmas carol services in Achill and Belmullet

Two special free Christmas carol services will take place in Achill. The first concert is on tomorrow November 26 at 4pm in Halla Acla, Achill Sound. The second concert is on Sunday November 27 at 7pm in The Achill Head Hotel.

There will also be two concerts in Belmullet — on Thursday December 1 at 7.30pm in Saint Brendan’s Hall, Eachléim, and on Friday December 2 at 7.30pm in The Broadhaven Bay Hotel, Belmullet.

There will be special music by the Gospel singers and a Christmas meditation. Tea, coffee, and mince pies will be served after the carol services.

Retreat for Advent
