The Raw Bar Collective airs its distinctive traditional music credentials in concert at the Linenhall Arts Centre in Castlebar on Thursday, November 24 at 8pm.
The Raw Bar Collective presents a vibrant and excitingly earthy style of Irish traditional music. The Collective is a fluid gathering of Irish musicians, each of them an acknowledged standard bearer within the tradition. They are anchored by Conal Ó Gráda (flute ), Benny McCarthy (accordion ) and Dave Sheridan (fiddle ), all three recognised as among the top instrumentalists in Ireland. They are joined by stellar guests sean nós singer Nell Ní Chróinín, one of the most exciting traditional singing talents of her generation, and consummate bodhrán player Colm Murphy. The Raw Bar Collective focuses on connecting with the listener, presenting music with warmth, wit, passion and respect. Recorded live, their debut album Millhouse reflects these values and crackles with the energy generated by such a genuine connection. The band’s live shows do likewise. Pianist Alexej Gorlatch comes to Castlebar
Phenomenal young Ukrainian pianist Alexej Gorlatch performs at the Linenhall Arts Centre in Castlebar on Thursday, December 1 at 8pm as part of a Music Network tour.
Entering the University of Arts in Berlin at the age of 12, within a decade Alexej Gorlatch had amassed a trophy cabinet jam-packed with awards, including First Prize at the prestigious Hamamatsu International Piano Competition in Japan, First Prize at the Dublin International Piano competition and Silver Medal at the Leeds Piano Competition, in a performance described by The Guardian as “immaculate in its poetry and aggression”. Gorlatch has poise, power and passion in equal measure, entrancing audiences from Carnegie Hall to the Salle Cortot in Paris with his relaxed stage manner, singing lines and soulful performances. Mayo-born virtuoso pianist Maria McGarry gives a highly anticipated recital at the Linenhall Arts Centre in Castlebar on Wednesday, December 7 at 8pm.
Maria McGarry is a pianist who brings a deep insight and sensitive musicianship to the music she performs, and has received consistent praise from critics for her intuitive musicianship, depth of interpretation and uniquely personal style. She has represented Ireland at many international events, and has been a winner of numerous prizes and awards. Her recordings are released on Lyric fm’s recent CD Hiccup and CMC’s Contemporary Music from Ireland Volume 9, recorded for Polish National Radio and Lyric fm, and she has featured on RTÉ's The Late Late Show and on TG4.
