A 35-year-old man gave an undertaking at Castlebar District Court on Wednesday to leave Castlebar and move to his native Galway after he breached a protection order.
Ex-partner of Victor Crawley, 47A Springfield Court, Castlebar made a statement to gardaí, that on September 25 2011, the defendant breached a protection order when at Springfield, Castlebar he threatened the woman, punched her car and said that it “wasn’t over yet”.
On September 27, Garda Martin Friel observed the defendant intoxicated at Moneen.
On October 25, Crawley’s ex-partner received numerous calls from the defendant — again this was a breach of the protection order. During the calls Crawley said to her that he would “destroy her face with petrol” and “get people to rape her mother”.
One phone call was received in the presence of a garda where the defendant was heard to call the woman “a prostitute” and said that he “would knock her clean out”.
The defendant has been in custody for two and a half weeks since the incident.
The court heard that Crawley, a chronic alcohol, has 21 previous convictions. The defendant gave an undertaking to leave Castlebar and not contact his ex-partner.
Judge Mary Devins convicted and sentenced him to a total of 14 days in prison (from the date he was taken into custody in October ). The protection order is still in existence until a Family Law Court date on November 24.
