Leading experts to address Connacht Gold Dairy seminar

Some of the country’s leading experts on dairy cow nutrition and management will address a special regional dairy seminar run by Connacht Gold Co-op in the McWilliam Park Hotel, Claremorris, on Tuesday November 29, starting at 8pm.

The seminar will provide dairy farmers with the opportunity to get up-to-date information on management of the dairy herd during the dry period and in early lactation. It will also feature the launch of Connacht Gold’s new superior range of dairy feeds.

Among the top-level panel of speakers is leading UCD animal nutritionist Stephen Whelan, who will advise on best practice in management and nutrition of dry cows. Paul Mooney of Trouw Nutrition will outline a new approach to feeding cows after calving, while Paddy McCarthy of global science-based company, DSM Animal Nutrition, will reveal details of the new range of Connacht Gold dairy and beef feeds and their potential to enhance health and performance.

The seminar will also be addressed by veterinary surgeon Martin Kavanagh, who runs the innovative company Cow Solutions, providing expert advice on cow health and production problems at farm level. Mr Kavanagh will report on his involvement in a disease monitoring scheme involving more than 500 dairy farms.

Inviting all Connacht Gold milk suppliers to the special seminar, Gabriel Lavin, manager of Connacht Gold Feeds, said it will provide a unique opportunity to update themselves on critical aspects of cost-efficient milk production. “There are exciting opportunities in milk production and dairy farmers need to exploit every technological development,” he said.
