Variations made to Westport development plan

Westport town and area councillors have proposed to make variations to the Westport town and environs plan, following a second manager's report.

After a recent meeting between officials from the Department of Environment and a delegation of both town and area councillors, further variations to the plan, which incorporates a plan for the Colonel’s Woods area and Westport House, needed to be considered.

Colonel’s Woods is to be zoned as woodland, which rejects any commercial developments in the area. Variations were also made to the Westport House plan, such as the opening of a passageway from Church Lane to the house, which would allow for large vehicles to pass through for events like concerts.

Both town and area councillors will be presented with a new core strategy plan by the end of the year.
