The Government’s capital spending plan for the next five years illustrates that the Fine Gael-led coalition recognises the importance and potential of the agri-food industry, according to Fine Gael public representatives in Mayo.
According to John O’Mahony, TD, Deputy Michelle Mulherin and Minister of State for Tourism and Sport, Michael Ring, while the Government has been left with no option but to make tough decisions as a result of the extremely difficult economic situation, key areas that will foster economic recovery and return prosperity are being prioritised, including the agri-food industry.
“The allocation for the capital spend on agriculture over the 2012-2016 period has been increased, proving that this Government recognises that the figures contained in the previous Fianna Fáil-led Government’s National Recovery Plan were totally inadequate and failed to harness the possibilities within this key growth sector. Agriculture is the good news story of this economy”, according to Fine Gael.
