Two sisters were before Castlebar District Court this week after they pleaded guilty to stealing groceries from supermarkets. The older of the sisters was also before court for stealing clothes on a separate date.
On May 17 at 7.45pm, Eileen McDonagh, 7 Thomas Street, Castlebar and Fiona McDonagh (of the same address ) stole €58 worth of groceries from Lidl and later that evening they stole two bottles of cooking oil from Mace. At 8.30pm the women were located with some of the items in their possession.
Eileen McDonagh was also in court for the theft of an €18 hoodie from Heatons on May 4, and on the same day a jacket worth €7 from Penny’s. McDonagh had also caused criminal damage to two tops from Heatons as she tried to pull the security tags off them.
Twenty-nine-year old Eileen, a mother of five, has previous convictions. Fiona (18 ) is a full time carer for her mother and has no previous convictions.
Judge Mary Devins remanded Fiona McDonagh on continuing bail to November 21 2012 for sentencing. Eileen McDonagh was convicted and fined a total of €1,100 and sentenced to a total of six months in prison.
