Gourmet evening in Ballinrobe for Mayo Roscommon Hospice

Carney’s Bar and Eating House Ballinrobe will host a gourmet evening on Wednesday November 16, with all proceeds from the event being donated to the Mayo-Roscommon Hospice.

Special guest on the night will be Mike Curran, a finalist on the popular television series Masterchef Ireland. Also in attendance will be recently elected Mayor of Ballinrobe Peter McHugh. This is Mayor McHugh’s first official function since he donned the robes and chain of office.

Mayo Roscommon Hospice Foundation was established in 1992 to help provide hospice/palliative care services in the two counties. The foundation works in association with HSE West. As the HSE continues to cut back on services the teams are calling on the foundation more and more to meet the increasing needs of patients with life-limiting illness in the community. Palliative care services in Mayo and Roscommon are heavily dependent on voluntary funding and they have to raise over €1.3 million to fund approximately 50 per cent of the service costs, in association with the HSE. The foundation also provides funding for the palliative care service in both Mayo General Hospital and Roscommon County Hospital. Palliative care services are provided free of charge.

Cynthia Clampett, CEO of Mayo Roscommon Hospice said: “The economic downturn has impacted on our fundraising and the income from many events is down. As a voluntary organisation we depend on fundraising and donations. We have to work even harder to maintain the service and ensure that it is not diminished in any way. Palliative care services could not be provided without the ongoing support of the public, and people like Luke and Kathleen Carney, and the other business people from around Ballinrobe who supported them in this venture through sponsorship to help raise much-needed funds for this essential service”.

Booking is essential as numbers on the night are limited. Tickets are available by contacting Luke Carney at Carney’s Bar and Eating House on 094 954 1702.
