Killala based Fine Gael councillor Jarlath Munnelly this week called on Mayo County Council to produce a masterplan for the lands it owns at the old Asahi site in Killala. Cllr Munnelly put forward the notice of motion at the November meeting of the Ballina Electoral Area Committee.
Cllr Munnelly in proposing the motion said, “The council still has a very large land holding at that side and if the proposed power installation goes forward at the site, there is a massive industrial potential for that site, which is already zoned for industrial usage. Not only power, but there is a proper industrial water and sewerage system out there. If the council has a proper masterplan in place for this site, it would show anyone who potentially had an industrial investment to make in the country that we were ready to move forward with it on our end”.
Cllr Munnelly’s motion was supported by the other members of the council. Director of services for the Ballina area for Mayo County Council Paddy Mahon told the meeting: “It’s a good idea and something that needs to be done, we have some idea of what will have to be done to get this going”.
