Efforts are under way to have Castlebar suitably festive and decorated for Christmas 2011 with traders in the town meeting on a regular basis in order to showcase the town and its wares at its best. The goal is to wrap the county town up warm and sparkly like a big Christmas cracker for all shoppers and families to enjoy.
The Castlebar Town Traders group is now requesting all shopowners to start putting up the decorations to give a nice kickstart to the upcoming season of goodwill, which is set for an official launch on the first weekend in December.
Business people are also being asked to get their seasonal Christmas promotions and offers at the ready to enable customers start their Christmas countdown preparations.
“Essentially, we are trying to get the town kick-started for Christmas, and with that in mind we hope that shops will have decorations and offers in place with plans to create a festive and fun atmosphere,” said traders group representative, Kathryn Brennan of the Castle Book Shop.
“The council has agreed that the town lights will be up for the weekend of December 2-3 when the Christmas season is to be officially launched. Local radio and paper coverage is also being put in place to advertise the town and hopefully we will entice people in to kick-start their Christmas shopping.”
Special events in individual shops and restaurants are also being organised starting Friday December 2 with late night shopping on the night .
At the Castle Book Shop a book launch by RTE’s Mary Kennedy is scheduled when she will launch her new book, Lines for Living at 6pm.
Carol singers and the town band will also be on hand to add to the atmosphere over the first weekend in December designed to launch the spirit of Christmas in Castlebar town. All businesses, organisations and individuals interested in adding to the festive theme will be heartily welcomed.
