The multi-million euro Achill Island bridge, which suffered a systems malfunction not long after opening, is now fully operational.
Senior engineer for Mayo County Council Michael Mongan told this week’s meeting of the Belmullet Electoral Area Committee: “Since October 20, the bridge has been back working fully operationally. It was tested and opened in automatic, manual and emergency modes and all things worked.”
He also informed the meeting that the staff had all been retrained on the modernisation of the system and were fully up to speed on procedures. Mr Mongan also said that a number of boats had passed through since the repair works had been completed and everything worked perfectly.
