Castlebar Vision 2020 blueprint unveiled

A blueprint for how Castlebar is to develop between now and 2020 has been unveiled.

The Castlebar Chamber of Commerce’s Vision 2020, which is the culmination of a year’s consultation with the local business community and Chamber partners, has identified four key pillars of development for the next 12 years. They are town centre development, enterprise development, image and environment, and culture and events.

Padraig McGuinness of PMG Consult was employed by the Chamber to facilitate the drafting of the Vision, which has identified 19 projects under the four key headings outlined above.

The Vision will be realised through strong business and community networks, inter-agency partnership and continuous investment in key infrastructure and quality services.

The Chamber will build partnerships with Mayo County Council, Castlebar Town Council, Enterprise Ireland and other agencies to begin work on some short-term goals. Projects include town centre enhancement, Destination Castlebar and an investment marketing strategy.

To develop the town in the long term a holistic approach will be taken, taking into consideration the current economic climate.

At the launch of Vision 2020 in the TF Royal on Monday night Chamber President Mr Peter Glynn said Castlebar must build on its successes to see it through the current economic climate.

Mr Tom Canavan, chairman of the Chamber’s strategic committee, said partnership with key agencies such as the local authorities is imperative to see the Vision’s projects realised.

Castlebar Town Council and Mayo County Council have pledged their support to the strategy.
