The need for a public bus service between Claremorris and Ballinrobe has again been raised by Fine Gael Councillor Patsy O’Brien.
Cllr O’Brien said this week that the route could be developed under the Rural Transport Scheme.
Mr Niall Sheridan, from the County Development Board, said a letter had been sent to Minister Noel Dempsey, however there will be no more funding available under the Rural Transport Scheme until the cohesion process is complete in Mayo. Mr Sheridan said he would also write to Bus Eireann to ask them to consider introducing such a route.
