A Lahardane man who is currently serving a prison term for driving offences was given a two-month prison term and banned from driving for 15 years at Ballina District Court this week.
Algimantas Saraprinas, The Old Post Office, Lahardane was stopped by Garda James Murphy on the Crossmolina to Ballina road after Garda Murphy saw Saraprinas’ car weaving across the road on April 5 this year at 4.50pm. He arrested Saraprinas and brought him to Ballina Garda station where he gave a urine sample that registered 346mg of alcohol per 100ml of urine. Garda Murphy also demanded that he produce his driving licence and insurance certificate which he failed to do. Saraprinas pleaded guilty to the charges and Judge Mary Devins convicted and fined him €1,000 for drink driving, disqualified him from driving for 15 years and imposed a two-month prison sentence to run consecutively with the one he is currently serving. For having no insurance she convicted and fined him €1,000 and imposed a two-month prison sentence to run concurrently with his other sentence.
