Mulranny
Round two of the Mulranny Park Hotel Winter League was played at the weekend. The early pace setters, in the team competition, are the teams of Dwayne Flynn (John McHugh, Enda Lonergan, Noel O’Malley ) and Fergus Rothwell (Paddy Chambers, JJ Kelly, Martin O’Carroll ). However, a number of other teams are hot on their heels. The league will conclude on Sunday December 4 with a shotgun start. You may play on Thursday, Friday, Saturday or Sunday.
The Hynes Shoes, Castlebar-sponsored stableford competition was won by John McHugh on 35 points, with team-mate Enda Lonergan taking third place on 34 points. They were separated by a back to form Jack O’Hara who pipped Enda on the back nine for second spot. Next weekend’s 15 hole stableford competition is sponsored by Bucko’s Bar, Castlebar and is open to individuals as well as team members.
You can become a full member of Mulranny Golf Club for only €280. This is valid until January 1 2013.
The annual dinner dance/retirement function takes place on Saturday, November 12 in Mulranny Park Hotel. Contact Mary 086 168 3894, any committee member or list your name in the clubhouse if you are attending. Tickets cost €30.

Gents’ competition winners October 20: First Ted Walsh Jnr (18 ) 42 points, second Joe Carty (22 ) 41 points, third Jimmy Moohan (16 ) 41 points.
Maura Jennings was delighted with the huge turnout of members and friends that attended the Marie Keating Foundation fundraiser last week. Great credit must go to Maura and her sub-committee for the effort that was put in all day Wednesday prior to the event in decorating the clubhouse.
The annual inter club match between Westport and Woodbrook was played in heavy conditions on Saturday last. Prior to the first game beginning, Tom Walsh welcomed Woodbrook captain Tommy Sheridan and his team to Carrowholly. Tommy was joined by 11 members of Woodbrook including Ronnie Fitzell, Jim Melody and founder of the Irish charity Goal John O’Shea.
