Inventors and business people invited to attend seminar

Operators in the SME sector and those with business and invention ideas are invited to attend a government-sponsored seminar, entitled ‘Building a Business on Your Ideas’, that takes place in Sligo IT next week.

Organised by the Patents Office, the seminar is aimed at small

business-owners, entrepreneurs, inventors and start-up companies in Connacht and will include expert speakers from the public and private sectors as well as local entrepreneurs.

Promoting the event, Minister for Research and Innovation, Sean Sherlock, stated: ‘This seminar presents a great learning opportunity for small business-owners, entrepreneurs, inventors and start-up companies.

‘It is not generally known that over 80 per cent of new inventions are derived from, or inspired by, previous inventions, so during the seminar information will be provided as to where details of previous inventions can be sourced.”

The seminar will outline all the Government supports available from incubation to commercialisation and explain how to convert an idea into a business opportunity, advise on due diligence in setting up a business, and provide an insight into what constitute patents, trademarks, and industrial designs.

“Small businesses are the lifeblood of our economy and now more than ever they need every support they can to start and grow,” said Deputy Sherlock. Admission to the seminar is free but pre-registration with the Patents Office is required online at http://patentsoffice.eventbrite.com or by phone at 056-7720111.

The seminars run from 9.10am to 4pm and there will be an opportunity to meet and talk with the speakers throughout the day.
