Formula 1 challenge

St Gerald’s College from Castlebar have signed up a team to participate in the F1 in Schools Technology Challenge powered in Ireland by Honda under the team name West Coast Racers.

Members of the team, Keith Derrig, Darren Brogan, Micháel Healy and Niall McCormick, under the guidance of their teacher John Bones, will be required to design, build, test and race an aerodynamic model of a Formula 1 car in a bid to win at the regional finals to be held in March 2009. If they are successful they will go on to the national finals in April 2009.

This is the fourth year for this competition, which is sponsored by Honda and Discover Science and Engineering, to be held in Ireland, and is the second year that the school has participated in it.

The team is now looking for sponsorship for the competition. If you wish to sponsor the team please contact Niall McCormick, Marketing and Communications Manager for team WCR at [email protected].
