Independent councillor Frank Durcan wanted to have a debate on the ongoing Department of Environment, Community and Local Government investigation into the management of the Mayo North East Leader Partnership, following a recent complaint.
Despite Cllr Durcan’s protestations that this issue should be debated by the council as it could cost the county money and jobs, and getting a seconder from Cllr Gerry Ginty to suspend standing orders to debate the investigation and an expression of concern from Fine Gael Cllr Jarlath Munnelly, the other members of the council decided that this was not the time or place for it. County manager Peter Hynes told the meeting, “There have been allegations made and an audit and investigation is under way. When that is completed you will be given a report on the findings and then it may be an issue for debate here, but not until then”.
