Man in his fifties dies in Binghamstown car crash

A 59-year-old man from Belmullet was killed on Thursday morning after his vehicle collided with a wall on the Belmullet to Blacksod road at Binghamstown.

The collision occurred at approximately 11.50am. The sole occupant of the car, PJ Garrett, from Clogher, Belmullet, was taken to Mayo General Hospital, Castlebar where he was pronounced dead. No one else was injured in the collision.

The road was closed to facilitate a forensic collision investigation and opened later that evening.

Anyone who was in the Binghamstown area between 11.30am and 12.30pm, and who may have seen the collision, is asked to contact the gardaí in Belmullet on 097 81910.
