The Mayo League last week announced the appointment of Claremorris manager Michael Hutton as the new manager of the Mayo League team for its upcoming Oscar Traynor campaign. Joining Hutton’s backroom team is Paul Ginty who will take on the role of fitness coach/trainer and Paul Byrne who will be one of the coaches. Tommy Rumley will be the kit manager with Padraig McHale the team liaison officer. Mayo have been drawn in a three team group including the Roscommon League and the Sligo Leitrim League.
In announcing the appointment League chairman Padraig McHale welcomed the new management team and wished them and the players the best of luck for the competition. He also thanked the outgoing management team of Brendan Kenny, David Nash and Paul Fielding for their efforts over the past two seasons and wished them well in their future football activities. Mayo’s first game is away to Roscommon in November with the second group game at home versus Sligo. The group winners will qualify for the quarter finals. In an effort to encourage more people to support the team a number of initiatives are expected to be announced in advance of the home match.
Clubs which feel that they have players who are good enough to represent the county team should contact the Mayo League with the names of these players as training will be getting under way next week.
Management shake ups in two clubs
Ballina Town manager Alan Gough has stepped down from his position in charge of the 2010 Super League champions after only one season in charge of the north Mayo men. Gough had moved to Ballina Town after a successful season in charge of Swinford and replaced Brendan Kenny who stepped down after guiding Town to their second league title in a row. Snugboro United are also on the look out for a new manager after Michael Durkan decided to leave his position following his side’s defeat in the FAI Junior Cup last weekend. According to the club. Durkan is leaving under good terms and has made the decision after serving on the club’s coaching staff over the last number of years.
Durkan praised the efforts of the players over the season and gave particular mention to coach Michael McNicholas who was brought in during the campaign to great effect. The club hopes to secure the services of McNicholas on a full time basis for the 2012 season. The players and officials thanked Durkan for his tireless efforts over the past number of years and he is wished well by all associated with Snugboro FC.
